of college, math and other things crazy...:P

tis been a while since my last post now........was kinda busy the whole while....didnt have time to get online......so i wrote down stuff in a book to post it here later......hmmm....where do i start...there is so much to tell....engineering would have been my last option when i joined college....or so i thought until a couple of months ago.....everything just happened so fast.....and even as i protested, there were these entrance exams, counselling, admission and classes...hehe...i guess this is what happens when life decides to play a practical joke on you....for a guy who hates math with all his guts to join a stream, where L'Hospitals rule, Jacobians and integration are as common as vowels in a sentence, is kinda amusing....[:P]....i dont understand why the parental pressure happens....is it just because they're afraid i'll make the wrong move?....is it because it makes them feel secure?....is it a prestige issue?....they know i hate math...they know im not good at it....and still they insisted....hmmmm....i wonder if it happens everywhere...[:P]..i dont regret whatever happened though....however awkward it may sound....i dont hate most of the subjects....mechanical engineering is awesome...so is electrical and civil....physics is pretty vague and math....well....i'd rather not say...[:P]...the university is a crazy place with crazier people....and so much happens in the college in one day...its really difficult to squeeze it all in one post....but even though i'm a little absent minded....i'll make sure to post some really amusing stuff without fail....:D

Now that xams r over!!! (yay)...the best way i kill time is by swimming, playing stronghold crusader reading books, buying groceries, texting, listening to music(...what will a person be without music!!!) and sight seeing (yes 3 days of this routine r over and i plan to TRY to continue this till the coaching classes start for the next year) sometimes i seriously think that THIS is how my life should continue...tension free...ya...but i DO realize (sometimes ...if not most of the times) that i do hav days ahead of me that will see me struggling to move on towards success...struggling to stay ahead of others...struggling to make a teeny weeny itsy bitsy bit of space in this competitive 'rat race' world of ours...but i cant help it...cant avoid it...cant run away to make MY life a bit different from what it is and what it is going to be...cos one often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it i noe...i gotta enjoy what comforts lyf throws at me when i still have the chance (already missed it in my school life...don't want to miss it in my college one).:)...:P

genetically modified foods..........whats all the hue and cry about....whats up with them?????

well.....lets first start from the basics before we pick this discussion up...
Every living organism in this world is made up of one or more cells...agreed??..the cell contains the control house called as the nucleus..this nucleus contains what is called as a "chromosome'...which is nothing but tightly coiled DNA strands.....this DNA contains our genes...the genes contain all the information about a particular organism...from the tiniest of the bacteria to the blue whale...the DNA 'controls' this information..the DNA however is never static..it keeps on changing due to environmental factors....slowly..generation after generation..nature loves to play around with our DNA..it gives a unique combination of genes from the parents to the offspring...and this is the reason that everyone everywhere is different!..
well...in genetic modification, we "TWEAK" the genes of a particular plant, thereby giving it the desired change and re-introduce the gene into other plants of the same species to get the desired result..........pretty vague huh??...lets go slow on this one...
When a plant is exposed to constant water shortage...its offspring becomes capable of surviving in it.....this is called ADAPTATION this happens the changes in the climate has effected the plant at the genetic level..and THAT has made it resistant to drought.......sometimes, this adaptation can happen in one swift change....this is called mutation...mutation by itself is not evil..its not what happens when a radioactive spider bites you and u turn into some blooming freako...no...it is...well...kinda necessary...without mutation..we would still have been single celled organisms...genetic modification does nothing special but makes use of this mutation in a controlled manner...
But..what exactly is the use of genetic modification in FOOD??....
Well.....today we need to feed billions of people...and the land area is not increasing..(duh!)..so..the only way we can increase the food production is by increasing the yield per hectare...this can be done by
1)using lot of fertilizers, manure and high grade soil......too costly...
2)wait and selectively reed high yield plants.....it will take bout 200 years to produce enough food for TODAY'S population...and what will be the population condition then??....
3)grow G.M. plants....cheap...safe and quick
biotechnology gives a helping hand here..the genes that are slowly modified over 200 odd years can be easily modified in a matter of minutes in a lab..the new modified gene is put in the place of the old one and......the process is done!..THIS is called genetic modification..it involves bringing about changes, which require hundreds of years, in a short time..this process is cheaper and DEFINITELY better than organic foods..
But most of the ppl are of the opinion that eating genetically modified food will genetically modify YOU!..it will cause irritability and diseases like cancer..what a load of bull c**p..speaking in reality, G.M. foods will neither cause any genetic, nor any normal disease..because the new genes are just like the old ones..neither does the taste or any other parameter vary cos they are not interfered with...G.M. plants under experimentation are grown only in well protected enclosed areas..only the ones which have passed the strictest of the existing protocol are let to be grown outside in fields...all precautions are taken care of..and there is an assurance that u'll be safe eatin it..and yet..you can see half knowledged ppl taking out rallies on the roads showing themselves as growing a third eyejust because B.T. brinjal was let into the market...all that the ppl need to do is..grow up..and look for new possibilities...if we didnt try the new things such as a motor car or something simpler as the wheel or fire...where do u think we would have been now....stone age??...we gotta evolve not only physically..but also mentally....thats what human nature is all about...we shpould be searchin for solutions in the problem...not for problems in the solution...

hey! howdy!.... my first post here.... hmmm.... i know.... what do i say.... well.... my previous blog wasnt much of what you'd call "readable".... it was a load of disoriented and unorganized things of what happened daily in my life..... didnt make much sense to me when i read it later either.... that got me thinking.... i can actually post something here which would make a good read.... "But why name it MELODIES IN MY MIND?".... well..... i bet that most of us have experienced a moment where a particular bit of a song plays in our head and simply refuses to leave, havent we?..... its the same case with me..... except that its not limited to tunes..... ideas, questions, thoughts, memories keep dancing around in my mind.... right from the stupidest ones like "is life a form of chemical or potential energy?" to quite smart and thought provoking ones such as "i think i'm putting on weight [:P].... and they wont stop bothering me until i see my sanskrit teacher or a weighing machine.... lol!!..... i thought that it would be great if i posted some of them here and let you guys pour in something as well.....so..all i'm sayin is...dont hesitate to comment on the posts here....and if you've got something in your mind that is screaming to be answered as well.....then type it out here without a second thought and i'll try my best to answer them for you!!.....:D
